Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine to the west. Many times, it is credited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was an aspiring young lady within Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. At the beginning of her life she hoped to become a performer but an unexpected increase in her height made it difficult. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I grew out of my male partners, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move to acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. Her teacher advised her to audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the lead in Anne of Green Gables. This led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor in the season 1 of the series and not seen much.
